Architectural Salvage Bookends GIVEAWAY Winner
So sorry I didn't announce this ALL week and made you all wait! I did contact the winner yesterday to let her know, but I should have posted this sooner. Sorry!
Like most bloggers, I use RANDOM.org to draw my winners and I normally don't post a screenshot, but since it drew #1 this time, I kinda felt that was just totally "unrandom" and I didn't want anyone else thinking something was up. So here ya go.
No.1 was Tanya from Make the Best of What's Around. CONGRATS, Tanya!!
Thanks to everyone who entered! I do have one last set of these for sale in my Etsy shop. If anyone who is a follower wants them, shoot me an e-mail or Etsy convo and I'll give you a code for 10% off. This offer will be good until March 5th (my bday!!) or until someone else scoops 'em up!
Make sure y'all come back tomorrow for my Favorite Things Friday link party!

GIVEAWAY Time!!
***CLOSED***
I haven't done a giveaway in awhile and I just recently reached 600 followers, soooo I think it's about that time.
I haven't done a giveaway in awhile and I just recently reached 600 followers, soooo I think it's about that time.
I'll be giving away a set of these.
If you've been in my shop, you've probably seen them. I even blogged about them a month or so ago. I bought 6 of them so I've got plenty to spare. I'm valuing these at $55 since they're in my shop for $40, plus $15 for shipping. Anywho, I'm sure you can tell that they are some sort of finial. They look like they may have been used for fenceposts. There is some cracking and some wear on them, which I love. They're quite large, as you can tell by the measurements.
Height - approx 8.5 inches
Diameter at widest point = 22 inches
Weight - Approx 5.5 pounds each
Charles and I came up with a few uses for them; bookends, doorstop, decorative piece, paper weight (kidding). If you win them, you are free to do what you want. Leave them as is or paint them. It'd be way awesome if you did a post on them showing what you decided to do with them in the end.
There are several ways to enter. Please leave a separate comment for each way. If you don't do this, all of your entries wont count. :-(
1 - This one's a must. Please be or become a follower of The Speckled Dog blog. This is worth one entry.
2 - Optional. Follow The Speckled Dog on Facebook. This is worth two entries. Leave two comments if you do this one.
3 - FB or Tweet about this giveaway. Worth two entries. Leave two comments if you do this one.
4 - Blog about this giveaway for five entries. Leave five comments if you do this one. I'll draw a winner for this two weeks from today. Good luck!!

Giveaway Repost - Win A Hand-Knit Birdie
I'd like to introduce you to the newest Speckled Sponsor, Sugar Foots Shop.

Sugar Foots Shop was founded by Kristen Cast in 2009. The shop specializes in sewn and hand knit items for children. Kristen describes her shop as, "A collection of unique and modern designs and gifts by artist and mom, Kristin Cast. Hand made from my home to yours. Giving you smiles one stitch at a time..."
More about Kristen and Sugar Foots Shop.
Being a Mom of 6 year old twin boys and a 3 year old little girl gives me the ability and joy to experience the simple faith of a child through their eyes. I get the privilege of all of those amazing feelings you get from the great mysteries and magic we all remember from our childhood: the Tooth Fairy, your favorite stuffed animal that protected you as you slept from the monsters under our bed and in our closets, the wonder of Santa Claus, or just the joy from getting a new toy. My kids are what inspired me to create The Sugar Foots Shop. I have a growing collection of hand knits and many other gifts designed and created by myself. I hope they will bring smiles to you and your kiddos for years to come!

Another CSN Stores Giveaway!!
I know, I know, I'm like two days late on this post. We certainly had quite the weekend around here. We hosted a game party for Han and I think we ended up with seven 11 year old kids and four of those spent the night and went to church with me yesterday morning. I'd been thinking that with them being at that age, I could just provide the snacks and then lock myself away to get all of my blog work done. Yeah... not so much. Do you know how loud seven kids are when they're all trying to talk yell over each other? Oh my!! Anyway, we can just say that I didn't get too much accomplished this weekend.
Anywho, it's time to announce my giveaway!
I know that most of you have already heard of CSN Stores because there have been giveaways all over blogland this summer (I even hosted one myself), but CSN Stores encompasses so many different stores that it's just impossible for everyone to know what every store has to offer. So I'll attempt to feature a store I hadn't seen before.
The store I want to feature involves one of the next rooms I'm planning to tackle, the dining room. This store, Dining Rooms Direct, is so awesome because you can buy a complete set or you can customize a set yourself. See, the tables and the chairs can all be purchased separately. I know when I've looked at dining sets before, I could never find the perfect one. There was always something I didn't like about either the table to the chairs. With Dining Rooms Direct, you can pick exactly what you want. You can search by every kind of material, finish, height, style and shape. You can choose a table from one set and add it to chairs from another! The possibilities are endless! This store would even be perfect for those of you who've scored and made over the perfect table, but have no chairs to go with it.
Ok, now on to what you're really here for, the deets of the giveaway.
I'm giving away one $40 gift certificate to CSN Stores. You can spend this in any of the 200+ stores that they have to offer. To enter, all you need to do is be a follower. S
Well, almost. Instead of running this giveaway off of comments, I've decided to try a linky. If you are already a follower, just link up. If you're not a follower yet, become one and then link up. You can link up with your main blog page. For the contest entry field you can just put your first name and then your blog name.
*** When linking up, if you receive an error that says - Server Error in '/' Application, don't worry, your link still went through. If you don't see your link, please let me know.

GIVEAWAY - REPOST
This is it! Today's the day! It's time for a GIVEAWAY!
I'm giving away a copy of "The Handmade Marketplace: How to Sell Your Crafts Locally, Globally, and On-Line" by Kari Chapin.
This book is perfect for anyone interested in getting their craft business off the ground.
Publisher Comments:
It's an exciting new world for crafters. Handmade is hip, creativity is what the market wants, and there are many profitable sales opportunities that didn't exist a few short years ago. For crafters who have more confidence running a sewing machine than setting up a Web site, The Handmade Marketplace breaks down and makes sense of the global possibilities for marketing and selling crafts.
First, determine the right price for every item — not too expensive and definitely not too cheap. Whether the product is beaded jewelry or felted slippers, illustrations or tote bags, author Kari Chapin helps crafters determine cost of goods, market competition, and the pros and cons of wholesale and retail sales. If the price is right, customers will buy.
Then it's on to selling. The boom in indie craft fairs and sites such as Etsy (Your place to buy and sell all things handmade) is providing artisans with an ever-expanding marketplace for handcrafted items. Chapin demystifies every venue. She explains the guidelines that craft fairs impose on exhibitors, the typical yearly calendar of shows, and how to start a new craft fair.
For the crafter interested in online sales, there are tips on styling and propping crafts for photographs and technical explanations of how the most popular Web marketplaces run. Traditional brick and mortar consignment stores are still very good options for many crafters. Chapin explains how to approach shopkeepers and build strong relationships.
Wrapping everything up with media advice and tips on how to get the word out, The Handmade Marketplace is the sales and marketing bible that today's crafters need.

The Handmade Marketplace is an excellent source of information for the independent entrepreneur. Chapin touches on all the necessary information for anyone interested in starting their own handmade/craft brand from home. I am currently working on a high-school senior independent-study program where I am crafting my own brand. The Handmade Marketplace could not be a more perfect book for my project. I have read through many similar books, but this is by far my favorite. Chapin somehow makes what could seem like an overwhelming task manageable. The book also provides advice and interviews from so many successful, talented people who have made strides in the online indie world. As an added bonus, the book is pleasing to look at. The illustrations are beautiful and inspiring in themselves.

Beyond being a super cute and attractive book, Kari's Handmade Marketplace will no doubt be the craft/indie business bible for at least the next 10 years. Questions about business cards? Social marketing? Selling wholesale or consignment? Using Etsy, Artfire or other online venues? It's all there, plus cute illustrations, stories told in the first person by today's most promising artists and crafters, and bits of information crammed into every nook and cranny. I get bored easily and rarely read a reference book cover to cover, but this one I did and have gone back and read parts twice. Highly recommended for those starting out in the business and to those with experience (I've been selling for over 5 years and found loads of good tips in Kari's book). This book should be on every crafters bookshelf.

Highly recommended for those starting out in the business and to those with experience (I've been selling for over 5 years and found loads of good tips in Kari's book). This book should be on every crafters bookshelf.
