A Side Table Makeover

We have a galley kitchen which means that I don't have a lot of room for things like cookbooks.  I'd tried keeping the ones I use most in several places; on top of the fridge, in a cabinet, on the counter.  None of those places worked because I needed those spaces for other things.  I tried moving a bookshelf to the tiny wall next to the back door, but it just didn't look right.  Then I found this little fella at Goodwill for $6.

I sanded what I could, which took awhile because there were two coats of paint on it, washed it, primed it and painted it. Then I sanded the edges, decoupaged a sheet of scrapbook paper to the to the top and added a cute drawer knob from Hobby Lobby.  I ended up with this:

Here it is in it's new home, holding the cookbooks I use most.

And a shot with THE Speckled Dog, Dax.

  6. Thanks, guys! I got the soap box at Marshall's Home Goods. It was $13. I'm thinking about trying to make one out of my husband's wood scraps just to see if it can be done easily.
