A Bed for the Unspeckled Dog

Meet Molly, the dog this blog isn't named after.

Molly turned 2 (in people years) on Oct 1st.  She's my sweet wittle bitty beebee.  In case you're wondering, that is exactly how I speak to her.  I love her to pieces.  To pieces, I tell ya!  I sometimes feel like Elmyra Duff when I'm loving on her, except she doesn't mind being loved on.  She is the most affectionate pet I've ever had.  She's so cute and so sweet, I almost can't stand it.  Oh, and she gives me kissed on command.

Anyway, in honor of her big 2nd birthday, we made a bed for her.  This was a joint project between myself and Charles.  I was the dreamer and he was the doer.

It began when I found this on the side of the road.

I'd planned on getting Charles to make a new top for it and to tighten things up, and then I was going to refinish it.  But then, I got this magazine, where I saw this:

Of course, then I knew what would become of that ugly tableThis...

Charles cleaned it up for me, tightened everything up, cut the legs a little, added some of the finials I got from Good Will many moons ago.  Then he made the little headboard and we bought an ornamental piece at Lowe's to add to it.  I sanded, painted and made the bedding.  The pillow most likely will become a dog toy and the bedding, I only lightly stuffed so that she could sink into it since Doxies like to burrow.  We only had to purchase two things for this bed; the headboard ornament and the trim for the bottom.  We already had everything else.

I really love what we were able to do with this and I love it even more because the time Charles spent on this shows me just how much Molly has won him over.

LOVE!

*Edited to add some pics with Molly actually in the bed.  So cute!!

What We've Been Working On

We've been in this house for three year and have never done any type of construction on it.  We always make half-hearted plans, but we never follow through.  The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, I suggested to Charles that we go on a family outing.  When he said he didn't feel like it, I got miffed and started saying how I feel like we never go do things together.  About an hour later, he asked if I'd like to work on the breakfast bar we'd been talking about. Wha???  Uh, YES!!!

So we headed out to Lowe's to get our supplies.  We ended up spending about $350.  Of course, I jokingly mentioned to Charles that if we'd gone to the caverns, we'd have only spent around $20.  I'm sooo glad he nixed the cavern idea because we really enjoyed working on this together and if you can believe it, there were no arguments.  I need to point out here that the previous Thursday, I'd smoked my last cigarette (20 year nasty habit).  Even with that figured in, we really had a great time.  At least, I did.  ha ha

Here's our sad little emaciated breakfast bar before:

Here is our beefed up, fabulously clothed new breakfast bar!
new paint already on the bar wall & look... columns!!

Of course, once we got the tile down, we realized it didn't go with any of the paint colors we have in our open floor plan.  You can guess what this means.  New paint everywhere!  I'm doing the kitchen today so pics to come soon.  I'm really hoping that the lighter paint colors help remedy my dark photographs.  Fingers are crossed!
