The Pups
This is Dax. She's the dog this blog is named after, obviously.
I got Dax when I first started dating Charles about 7 years ago. My family had dogs when I was growing up, but they were mostly hunting dogs so I didn't really hang out with them much. I consider Dax to be my first dog. I adopted her from the animal shelter as a puppy. When I went to choose my dog, I was immediately drawn to the Dalmatian-looking puppies. There were two left out of the litter; one male and one female. Per the sign on the cage, the male was the one with the black circle around its eye. This was the one I chose. After about 9 months, I started to wonder why my male dog was still crouching to pee. *Turns out, Dax was a she and not a he. This is why she's got such a masculine name. We didn't want to confuse her so we just let her keep the name.
A little over a year ago, we added to our family. I've always loved Dachshunds. Charles, not so much. I had to BEG for this sweet little baby. She's the funniest little thing and now Charles loves her too.
This is an older photo of Molly wearing a sweater I made. I think she was about 12 weeks old. We don't have any of her by herself since then because we can't get her to sit still long enough.
Here are a few shots of them together.
*This isn't the first time this has happened. Someone once gave me a cat and told me it was a female so I named it Lucy. About a month later, I discovered Lucy had balls.

A Side Table Makeover
We have a galley kitchen which means that I don't have a lot of room for things like cookbooks. I'd tried keeping the ones I use most in several places; on top of the fridge, in a cabinet, on the counter. None of those places worked because I needed those spaces for other things. I tried moving a bookshelf to the tiny wall next to the back door, but it just didn't look right. Then I found this little fella at Goodwill for $6.
Here it is in it's new home, holding the cookbooks I use most.
And a shot with THE Speckled Dog, Dax.

I sanded what I could, which took awhile because there were two coats of paint on it, washed it, primed it and painted it. Then I sanded the edges, decoupaged a sheet of scrapbook paper to the to the top and added a cute drawer knob from Hobby Lobby. I ended up with this:
